“The Old Course of Putting Greens” is one of the many compliments the team of volunteers at Crail Putting Green has received over the 2024 season, during which a marvellous 4,481 rounds were played.
But, did you know...
Crail Festival resurrected Crail Putting Green 12 years ago and still maintains it. After advice from the Crail Festival, Levenmouth volunteers resurrected their putting green this summer.
One of our 59 volunteers in the 'starting hut' is over 90. The mowing team consists of six men and two women.
The mowing team frequently use a whip to clear worm casts before mowing.
Nearly £700 was spent this year on sharpening and maintaining the mower’s cutting heads.
CGS greenkeepers scarify, fertilise, and spray soluble iron on the green in spring and autumn. In 2024, the green had the best-putting surface ever.
The cheery Honesty Box is working, allowing conscientious players to play outside of hours. To prove a point, putting is an activity for children, parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents to participate in together, as we see from the four generations below.
A zillion thanks to all our Crail putting volunteers, one of the most successful volunteer groups in the Royal Burgh.
