About

A Life Handmade Q&A Crail Festival

An opportunity to meet the family, ask questions and listen to their stories of their life during the early and subsequent years of Crail Pottery.

This exhibition presents an insight into the story of Crail Pottery founders, Carol and Stephen Grieve and illustrates their fascinating journey in the setting up Crail Pottery.

Setting out on their new life together, in 1965 Carol and Stephen arrived in Crail with a dream to make a home, family and business in the small seaside town.

Through family photos, stories, newspaper clippings, videos, sculptures and pottery, this exhibition presents an insight into the characters behind Crail Pottery; the work involved in setting up their business; their craft; their life handmade and the family legacy that continues today.

The family run businesses of Crail Pottery, Crail Earthenware and Crail Ceramics are set around a beautiful courtyard in the heart of Crail. They produce a diverse range of stoneware and brightly coloured earthenware; from mugs and salad sets to cooking pots and planters. Every piece is hand thrown, decorated, glazed and fired in the workshops by the Grieve family.
